Update on cold weather closer to Christmas
How cold will it get closer to Christmas?

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- As we approach next weekend, a powerful upper-level system will roll into the continental United States. Along with it, cold air, precipitation, and changes will sweep across parts of the country.

For us, here's what we know right now: The two major long-term models still don't agree on timing. The American model brings the cold air and precipitation mix into the central and southern plains next weekend and into Christmas.

The European model holds off and likely brings the colder air in the following week. If the European model is true, we may even be warmer in southeast Texas over the holiday weekend, and have a chance at some rain and thunderstorms.

There's still a lot of variation between models and a lot of uncertainty, so the details will change. But all in all, stay apprised as we head toward the holiday weekend, and as updates are released.
