Violent rollover crash kills teen girl near Cypress

CYPRESS, Texas (KTRK) -- A violent crash claimed the life of teen near Cypress overnight, and left another in critical condition.

Investigators said the wreck happened late last night on Queenslake and Cypress Rosehill in northwest Harris County.

Deputies said the teenager who was behind the wheel was likely speeding when she lost control, striking a tree and then crashing into a concrete culvert.

The vehicle then rolled onto its roof, before landing right side up on a person's driveway.

The passenger, Lily Haugen, was killed, according to deputies. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her friend who was behind the wheel, Jenna Ellsmore, was taken via Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

In a statement, a Cypress-Fairbanks ISD spokesperson confirmed that both girls attended Cypress Falls High School.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this very difficult time," said Nicole Ray with the district.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
