McNamara Elementary School Parents:
Though no students were harmed, I need to make you aware of an incident that occurred today on our campus.
This morning, a teacher found an unloaded handgun in a student's backpack. We immediately notified the HISD police officer stationed on our campus, detained the student and confiscated the weapon. I want to assure you that proper disciplinary action is being taken, as outlined in the HISD Code of Student Conduct.
Please know that we take these situations very seriously, as the safety of our students and staff at McNamara is always our absolute top priority. We are vigilant and have a strong monitoring system in place, which allows us to keep careful watch over our students and be on the lookout for signs of potentially dangerous behavior.
I encourage you to be vigilant at home, as well. Please take this opportunity to talk with your children about the dangers of guns and why they should not be brought to school, and remind them about the importance of reporting unsafe behavior and objects.
We appreciate your continued support. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school office at 713-778-3460.
