UH regents vote to give football coach Tom Herman big raise

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- University of Houston head coach Tom Herman has the Cougars football team unbeaten and climbing in the polls. And on Thursday, the school decided to reward him for it.

The UH board of regents voted to negotiate an amendment to his contract, raising his salary to $3 million a year. It also increases performance incentives. Currently, he earns $1.35 million a year in base salary and non-salary compensation.

Chairman Tilman Fertitta made the motion, which was unanimously accepted.

The University of Houston football team is 10-0 and attendance at home games is increasing significantly.

Herman came to the University of Houston from Ohio State, where he was part of a national championship team.
