HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A two-alarm fire at a west Houston building sent at least one person to the hospital, according to the Houston Fire Department.

The fire erupted around 9:38pm Sunday in the 9000 block of Ruland Road. Firefighters went into defensive mode shortly after they arrived on scene.

HFD spokesman Jay Evans says one victim was transported. He did not specify whether that person was a firefighter, and we don't know the kind of injuries that person suffered.

Evans says there is significant smoke and fire damage. We're told the building contains some kind electrical equipment and chemicals.

HFD says the cause of the blaze is still under investigation by the Houston Arson Bureau.
