Comfort dogs may make air travel easier
Program at Houston's airport used specially trained dogs to ease travelers' anxiety and stress

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- For many, the joy of the holidays is dampened by the stress of holiday travel. This year, some passengers at Bush Intercontinental Airport are getting an unusual stress relief treat -- a visit with some special dogs.

Officials with United Airlines and the Therapy Dogs Incorporated brought in comfort dogs Simon and Moe to Terminal C to offer busy travelers some comfort and provide a flyer-friendly experience for dog lovers at the airport. Travelers were encouraged to meet and pet the dogs, who walked with their handlers throughout the C terminal.

Most travelers who encountered the Labradors seemed cheered by their presence.

"I think it's cool," said one passenger. "For a dog lover, it gives you a sense of home. I had a dog growing up and she was part of the family."

Another said, "I'm glad that our flight isn't delayed, but if it was, this would be so uplifting. They're so sweet!"
