'Technical issues' cancel Carnival Liberty sailings
GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- Carnival is cancelling a scheduled cruise of its "Liberty" and is adjusting two future sailings as well due to a problem with the ship's alternator.
The company initially modified the Liberty's schedule for it's Nov. 1 sailing, then cancelled the trip outright after engineers discovered a problem with the ship's equipment.
The problem is causing the ship to slow down and not reach it's maximum speed, a company spokesperson said. All other systems are operating normally, the company said.
Monday's scheduled arrival was delayed until 5:45pm. Guests scheduled for the next voyage boarded the ship between 7 and 10pm Monday night, expecting departure, but never left the dock.
Repairs are underway on the ship, but could take "some time" to complete, the company said. As of Tuesday morning, the Liberty was still docked in Galveston.
Guests would get a full refund for the trip and a "100 percent future cruise credit" along with a $90 per person reimbursement and stipend for meals in Galveston.
The Nov. 5 five-day cruise will use an adjusted schedule, cutting one stop short. The Nov. 10 four-day cruise also has an adjusted schedule. Cruises leaving Nov. 14 are expected to not be affected.
"We sincerely apologize to our guests for this disruption in their vacation plans," a company statement said.
