Wreck leaves 2 kids dead, sends 2 others to hospital
Detectives say they're treating a NE Harris County wreck that left two kids dead and two adults critically injured as a crime scene

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A wreck in northeast Harris County wreck left two children dead and two adults critically injured. Detectives are treating the accident as a crime scene.

The wreck happened off Old Beaumont Highway near Prince Road. A sergeant at the scene says a sedan was possibly speeding on the two-lane stretch of the highway, tried to pass the vehicle in front but collided head-on with an SUV carrying a mother and her two sons.

"It doesn't appear that she was at fault. Based upon the positioning of her vehicle, she was in her lane and it looks as though she didn't have enough time to react," said Harris County Sgt. Mike Harvey.

Authorities say the two brothers, though properly restrained, were killed; both were under the age of 12. Their mother was transported to the Texas Medical Center via LifeFlight with internal injuries.

The male driver in the sedan suffered broken bones and also was airlifted to the hospital.

Right now, alcohol is not a factor in the wreck.
