Thousands of bikers descend on Galveston for Lone Star Rally

GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- Get ready to rev your engines. The Lone Star Rally will take over Galveston Island this weekend. The 6th annual event is expected to be the largest ever with 400,000 people projected to attend.

"We come down here every year, I don't think I've missed a year yet," biker Larry Fuller says. This year he is showing off his favorite Harley Davidson. "It's my second wife," he laughs.

In addition to checking out the coolest new rides, visitors will also have the chance to shop hundreds of vendors and listen to a variety of musical performances. Kicking off the event Thursday night is Journey's former lead vocalist, Steve Augeri, who is making his first trip to Galveston.

"Aside from even the rally and all of the energy and the bikers coming to town and having a big party for the next few days, I'm just in love with the town itself," Augeri said.

Because of the massive size of the event, Galveston Police have blocked off several major roads. Seawall Boulevard will be closed westbound, from 19th Street to 25th street. The Strand will be open only to motorcycles from 18th to 25th street.
