Research: Top 4 road projects Houston needs for its continued growth

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Washington-based research group is out with a list of road projects Houston needs to support continued economic growth and quality of life. This group is called "Trip" and looked at data from multiple government agencies to come up with this list.

These are the top four road projects Houston needs as the city's population continues to grow.

Project number one: Reconstruct and expand the north freeway from U.S. 59 to the North Beltway. It's a project valued at $6.7 billion that the report says would relieve congestion and increase safety.

Project number two: Reconstruct and widen the Southwest Freeway from the West Loop to the Beltway. This 7.5 mile project through southwest Houston is valued at $1.25 billion.

Project number three: Construct four express lanes on the 610 West Loop from the Southwest Freeway to the Katy Freeway. This $250 million project could help ease congestion in one of the most congested stretches of freeway in the state.

Project number four: Reconstruct and widen the East Freeway from the East Loop to Spur 330 in the Baytown area. This project is expected to cost about $523 million and would stimulate growth in east Houston and east Harris County.
