Overturned helium truck blocks traffic on North Freeway

A helium truck has crashed in West Houston and is emitting a plume of smoke into the air.

Traffic was snarled this morning after an 18-wheeler overturned carrying helium and nitrogen overturned at the North Freeway at the 610 North Loop.

The truck was going from 45 to the eastbound ramp of 610 when it overturned. The ramps in the area were shut down after the accident.

The Houston Fire Department allowed the ruptured tank, which emitted a large plume of helium into the air, would be allowed to dissipate.

The driver's condition is unknown.
