Juneteenth parades and traffic closures this weekend

Houstonians mark Juneteenth
The celebration marks the end of slaverly in Texas. While the big parade is Saturday, the actual anniversary was Friday

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Thousands of people are expected to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth this weekend.

Juneteenth is the holiday honoring the end of slavery in Texas.

Houston's Junteenth Parade takes place on Saturday and Rolls at 10AM, so watch for closures near Texas Southern University, east of downtown. Staging begins at the corner of Wheeler and Ennis. The parade will march north on Dowling to Holman, ending at Project Row Houses.

Galveston's "We the People" Parade begins tonight at 7:30 p.m. at 16th and Strand. The parade heads west on 25th Street, then on to Seawall Blvd, ending at McGuire-Dent Recreation Center.

On Saturday night Missouri City's "One Mile of Smiles" Parade rolls down Texas Parkway. Expect closures in the area around 7 p.m.
