Two HISD school buses crash on 290
A busy morning after two school buses crashed on the Northwest Freeway

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An accident between two HISD school buses and a flatbed truck has traffic backed up on the Northwest Freeway's eastbound lanes.

Transtar officials say the accident is at Highway 290 eastbound at Mangum. Fortunately, no students were on board either bus.

We are not yet aware of any injuries as a result of the wreck or exactly how the crash happened.

Traffic is still moving, but drivers should expect delays.

One of the buses rear-ended the other. The first bus has since been towed away, but the second bus has major damage to its front end and is still sitting on the freeway.

A single ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but we don't know if anyone has been treated.

Katherine Whaley says you can use Hempstead Highway as an alternate.
