Galleria construction projects to note this winter
Seeing construction work around the Galleria/Uptown area? Here's what crews are doing.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- If you're doing holiday shopping in the Uptown/Galleria area, you might notice that you have one less lane to drive on, so we wanted to find out what the closure is all about.

Turns out, it's a major sewer improvement project by the Uptown Houston District. Construction is now underway between San Felipe and Uptown Boulevard.

The good news is they finished their busiest sector, between San Felipe and Westheimer, right before the holiday season.

The next part of the project is right in front of the Galleria. It begins in January, and crews will be building a new waterline on Westheimer between Post Oak and Sage.

This is part of the redevelopment of Post Oak where sidewalks will be widened to 12 feet and streets will be repaired and expanded. The new Post Oak Boulevard will still be three lanes for cars, but will include an extra lane in each direction for bus transit.

And expect major changes to the 610 West Loop, as well. The Texas Department of Transporation is building a bus service from I-10 to Post Oak Boulevard.
