Falling forklift severely damages car on Hwy 290
A falling forklift created huge backups on Highway 290 during the morning commute.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A black car was heavily damaged on Highway 290 this morning when a forklift fell off an 18-wheeler, striking the vehicle.

Officers stopped traffic in the inbound lanes of the Northwest Freeway at 43rd Street.

The wreck happened around 6:42 a.m., backing up traffic for miles down Highway 290 as it stretches into the Jersey Village area.

From our view in SkyEye13, you could see the neon green forklift on the freeway, where it came to a rest against a concrete wall on the overpass.

The Hyundai Sonata at the scene has severe damage to the driver's side. It appeared that crews had to rip the door off the vehicle to get the driver out.

We are not certain if anyone was injured.

Officers were blocking all lanes for a police investigation, but it now appears at least one lane is getting by.
