Big I-45 Gulf Freeway Closure.. and OPA!
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Traveling along the Gulf Freeway this weekend? Beware, the freeway's northbound lanes will be completely shut down this weekend.
All inbound lanes between Bay Area Boulevard and El Dorado will be closed from Friday at 8pm until Monday at 5am. All traffic will be forced onto the feeder road, so you can expect heavy delays. Highway 3 or Highway 35 will be your best alternates.
This weekend is also the 49th Original Greek Festival at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in the Montrose area. Forty thousand people are expected to attend the four-day event, so plan to encounter a big crowd! You will want to avoid driving directly to the festival site.
Street parking is not allowed on the blocks immediately surrounding the festival. Instead, with help from The Wave jitney shuttles, the festival is offering free rides from Houston Community College Central Campus and Lamar High School.
Shuttle hours are: Thursday and Friday 5PM until 10:45PM, Saturday 11AM until 10:45PM, and Sunday from Noon to 6:30PM. The shuttles run every fifteen minutes, and parking is free.
