Thieves steal musical instruments from Harvey victims in Friendswood before Christmas
FRIENDSWOOD, Texas (KTRK) -- Danny and Beverly Brown are used to adversity. As parents to six special needs children, every day is a challenge.
Then came Hurricane Harvey. Their home got more than 50 inches of water. That forced the family to live somewhere else as they sorted out their lives.
"It's like, what else can go wrong? Just one more thing we got to deal with," said Danny Brown, the family patriarch.
Then the day after Christmas, when Danny and wife Beverly came back to their Friendswood home to continue the clean-up process, they realized someone had broken into their home. Several musical instruments and electronics were missing.
"There were three guitars that were my husband's and my older son's," said Beverly Brown. "Three guitars and things were rummaged through."
The Browns aren't alone. Friendswood police say at least two other homes, one on the 5200 block of Whittier and another on the 16,000 block of Wardon have also been burglarized.
Among various items stolen were also a number of musical instruments including several clarinets, a saxophone, and a tuba. Neither police nor victims seem to know why instruments were targeted.
"The instruments taken in this instance were mine and my oldest son's," said Danny. "They were not in the flood, they were upstairs."
The Browns suspect the burglars came in through a back window. The problem for them and many other flooded homeowners is that they are not home full time, and do not know exactly what day the burglaries occurred.
Friendswood police says it's just beginning to investigate and have no suspects.
