Several students injured in Cy-Fair ISD school bus crash in NW Harris Co.
CYPRESS, Texas (KTRK) -- A Cy-Fair Independent School District bus was involved in a crash Thursday morning, leaving multiple students with minor injuries, according to Harris County sheriff's deputies.
The crash happened near West Road and Barker Cypress in northwest Harris County.
Deputies say the bus was turning left out of the Windhaven neighborhood onto West Road when it collided with a pickup truck, causing the bus to flip onto its side.
According to Cy-Fair ISD, several students were treated for minor injuries.
The bus, which was carrying 27 people, was on its way to Postma Elementary School, deputies said.
EMS evaluated 11 patients in total, including 2 adults and 9 children, according to the Cy-Fair Fire Department.
A Good Samaritan on the scene got out of his vehicle and was able to pull some of the kids to safety.
"They were very scared. I mean, you could see it. I mean, an unknown person trying to get them out in the middle of the bus being on its side, I think that all of that was sinking in, that they were getting out," Good Samaritan Daniel Garces said. "And they were even, as they were getting out, some of them were really grabbing onto my hand really hard. So I could tell that they were very tense."
Deputies are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
"They were so very fortunate, like the captain said, that we had EMS instructors from Lone Star College, the fire department, right next door. We had officers working at the Berry Center," Cy-Fair ISD Police Chief Eric Mendez said. "Today is actually vaccination day at the Berry Center, and so we had a couple of our officers that were working at the Berry Center. They got here in less than a minute of the collision, so they were able to quickly respond and get all the students off the bus."

Cy-Fair ISD provided the following statement when the crash first occured:
"We have just learned of a bus accident near Barker Cypress/West Rd. CFPD and EMS are on the scene. Several students are being evaluated and treated for minor injuries."
