HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We need a little retail therapy, and not the kind you're thinking about. Therapy for being sad that all of our once favorite stores have closed or are closing.

In the past couple of years, and more recently, retailers have announced hundreds of store closings due to low profits. We grew up buying the coolest tank tops or wide leg jeans from some of these stores. They were part of our childhood shopping trips.

Do you ladies remember 5-7-9? Back in high school, that was all the rage. If you were a mall rat, you knew all about it. The store sold small sizes for short and petite women who fit in sizes 5, 7 and 9. The store is practically extinct.

And how about Wet Seal? It announced in January that it would be closing all 171 stores across the country.

No more blue light specials. Several Kmart locations are closing across the U.S., along with Sears and Macy's.

American Eagle Outifitters took a big hit and have closed more than 150 stores due to declining sales. Aeropostale, which was a similar concept to American Eagle, filed for bankruptcy and it's reported that the chain will shut down about 230 out of their 800 stores.

Kids clothing is taking a big hit as well. The Children's Place planned to close 200 stores between fiscal 2015 and 2017. That will be a big disappointment for parents.

Just last month, retail giant JCPenney announced as many as 140 stores to close in the next few months. JCPenney went through a brand change a few years ago in hopes of gaining new and younger customers.

Another women's apparel chain bites the dust. The Limited started closing all 250 of its stores across the U.S. The Limited posted a message on its website saying that they would continue to sell items online, but it's unclear how long that will last. According to Fortune, Chico's and Ann Taylor stores have struggled and are closing some of its doors as well.
