Tompkins wins over Cinco Ranch, advances to state tourney
Saturday the Falcons finally did take it to the next level with a 2-0 win over three-time defending Region III-6A girls champions, Cinco Ranch.

KATY, Texas (KTRK) -- Breaking through and taking it to the next level is what Tompkins High School has been working for throughout its three varsity seasons.

On Saturday, the Falcons took it to the next level with a 2-0 win over three-time defending Region III-6A girls champions Cinco Ranch.

The win will send Tompkins to Georgetown for the state tournament for the first time ever.

Senior Katy Reid couldn't believe it.

"It's an amazing feeling dreaming about this since freshman year," Reid said.

"Honestly, it's unbelievable that they've been our rivals since JV years. It's unbelievable," senior Joannie Ramos said.

Tompkins first goal against Cinco Ranch was scored by freshman Valeria Gomez.

Gomez is making her first start after playing her entire season on the junior varsity squad.

"She got told she was starting five minutes before the game didn't give her time to panic," head coach Jarrett Shipman said.

"She came on for me because I was injured. She stepped in and wow, I was so proud of her," Reid said.

What did Valeria think when the ball went in the net?

"I was relieved. So unexpected," Valeria said.

Tompkins plays Austin Vandergriff in the State semi-finals on Friday in Georgetown.
