HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans have activated defensive end J.J. Watt (back) and left tackle Duane Brown (quadriceps) from the physically unable to perform list, meaning they are eligible to play in the Sept. 11 season opener against the Chicago Bears.

Head coach Bill O'Brien said Friday that it "looks decent" that Watt could return for Week 1. On Friday, O'Brien said he did not have an update on Brown.

If the Texans had put either player on the regular-season PUP list, he would have had to miss at least six weeks of practice before returning to the field. Neither player participated in training camp or played in any of the Texans' preseason games.

Watt has been on the preseason PUP list since he had surgery on a herniated disk in his back in late July. Watt has never missed a game in his five-year NFL career.

Brown tore his quadriceps last year in the Texans' regular-season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
