Pearland takes big win in first game of regional rounds

WACO, TX (KTRK) -- What a game! Pearland went into the final inning needing a run to tie the game and get to extra innings. They got that run and then made the most of the extra inning!

The first game of the regional round of the Little League World Series had Pearland fans nervous. Trailing the whole game it took a base hit from Zack Mack to tie the game.

Zack Mack, 1st Base, said, "I was just trying to be short and quick and hit the ball in play and I ended up putting the ball in play and gave us the tie."

Then in extra Innings, a pair of two run home runs put Pearland on top. Again, Zack Mack came up with the crucial hit.

Mack said, "It's what the coaches teach us every time, but without the team we would not have enough runs."

Ben Gottfried tacked on two more and the once close game was a rout.

Ben Gottfried, Pitcher, said, "It's getting harder but if we keep battling we will be doing good."

For parents, it was an agonizing first win, but they are happy now.

Mom Lisa Mack said, "This team they, don't quit they don't give up, they hung in there. They pulled together and everybody did what they needed to do and it worked out for us in the end."

Mom Tracy Gottfried said, "(For my son to get two home runs) was great, I was down base line watching it. It was fabulous.")

The win is huge for Pearland because now the boys get a day off before playing again on Sunday night.
