NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota said his left knee has been feeling better, but the team said he will not play Sunday against the Houston Texans.

Mariota did not play last Sunday either and was limited in practice this week while wearing a knee brace. Zach Mettenberger will quarterback the 1-5 Titans in Houston.

"Marcus Mariota made a lot of progress this week, but we aren't going to play him Sunday," coach Ken Whisenhunt said Friday on the team's Twitter feed.

Both the Titans and the Texans have lost to the Colts but remain in range of 3-4 Indianapolis, which leads the AFC South.

Mariota was injured on a low, late hit by Dolphins defensive endOlivier Vernonin the second quarter of a Week 6 loss to Miami.

"As much as we'd like to make it work, we couldn't make work,"Titans GM Ruston Webster said Friday on the Midday180 in Nashville.
