ARLINGTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The lone loss of the season for the Manvel Mavericks was unfortunately on a night the team had a chance to win a state football title.
Manvel came up a yard short against Highland Park on Friday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
After every defeat in life, we're often reminded to look at the lessons learned along the journey. In sports, a loss -- especially in a title game -- is one of the most painful feelings an athlete can experience.
You were so close, but yet still so far from a championship victory.
A loss is also the time to remind each other of the success you were still able to achieve.
After the Mavericks' heartbreaking loss, quarterback Kason Martin delivered an emotional and inspiring speech to his teammates.
"In the history of the world, God has never made one mistake," Martin said. "I know we don't see it right now, we can't see nothing but loss right now."
He also reminded his brothers of how great they truly are.
"I don't care what the scoreboard says, y'all are champions," Martin added. "I love y'all man."
