CYPRESS, TX (KTRK) -- The Cy Ranch High School girls basketball team is looking for their first-ever state championship.
A day after clinching the district title, Baylor commit Deauzya "DiDi" Richards was honored as a McDonalds All-American Hometown Hero. The day also happens to be her birthday.
"You saying it probably brings more chills to me," said Richards. "I feel when I get there, it will hit me."
The feeling around Cy Ranch is that Richards is one of a kind.
"She is respectful, she works hard," said head coach Tresa Hornsby. "It is a pleasure to have her on the basketball team, that is for sure."
Richards never thought she would be playing basketball. She thought her life would take a different direction.
"I didn't want to be a sports type of girl," she said "I wanted to dance or do something with beauty or something. Now that I have taken the basketball thing far, it is showing me, you can do anything."
