Houston Astros pitcher Brett Oberholtzer was put back on the disabled list Wednesday night after a protective layer of skin covering a blister on his pitching hand came off during his first start of the season.

The left-hander, who was activated off the DL prior to the game after suffering a left index finger blister at the end of spring training, lasted just three innings in the Astros' 4-3 victory against the San Francisco Giants, allowing one run and five hits with three strikeouts.

"Just the top layer came off," Oberholtzer said. "There was no blood. It didn't boil up again like it previously did when I missed a month for it. I'm actually happy the top layer came off. It feels better now.

"The bright side is I'll only miss [two] starts and get right back to it. I'll be able to continue to throw as the training staff told me. That's the good news. The bad news is I only went three today and made the bullpen have to pick me up a little bit."

Oberholtzer, 25, had pitched five or more innings in his first 14 career starts. He went 5-13 with a 4.39 ERA in 2014.
