Texas couple throws state fair-themed wedding

It doesn't get any more Texas than this.

A North Texas family transformed their 700-acre ranch into a full-blown fairground for a state fair-themed wedding.

Evan and Melissa Tate of Rockwall held a small, quaint brunch wedding ceremony with a few close family and friends on March 19. But their reception one week later was massive and was something only a fellow Texan could relate to.

Melissa loves the State Fair of Texas, so the couple planned a state fair-themed party decked out with tents, a ferris wheel, livestock and fair-themed food. They ordered about 500 corn dogs with brisket nachos, turkey legs and cotton candy.

"We also coordinated it with the 55th anniversary of the ranch," Evan told ABC News. "It's been in my family for 55 years, and we celebrated that at the same time."

The couple got Fletcher's corn dogs, which are famously known at the State Fair of Texas.

"That really made a big difference to our guests, because the only time you can get one is during the state fair. It made it even more magical for everybody to get to be at a fair-themed event and to get a Fletcher's corny dog."

The dessert bar was created to look like a baking contest.

"The dessert bar with our wedding looked like a baking contest," said Melissa. "It had eight different whole pies, then bundt cakes that my mom made, then we had 100 skinny pies and some Texas-shaped cookies, and all of these had prize ribbons with them like a baking contest."

The special event was documented on social media with the #TateFairofTexas, since that is their last name. The bride said it was a dream come true for them to have a "personal state fair."

"It was a celebration of us and our relationship and of all the things that we do and have fun together doing," she said. "The State Fair of Texas is a celebration of the state of Texas, and I felt like Tate Fair of Texas was a celebration of us."
