Harris County Precinct 5 deputies now have some extra protection, support and prayers.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Harris County Precinct 5 deputies now have some extra protection, support and prayers.

Liza Viera, 20, handed out St. Michael medallions to the officers. St. Michael is the patron saint of protection and police.

The Houston college student's father is in law enforcement and she began handing out the medallions to officers all over the world after the tragic sniper attack in Dallas last year.

Viera had the medals blessed and has traveled across the country delivering them to officers.

To date, Viera has distributed more than 18,000 medallions.

Viera said she's hoping to give every officer in Texas the special medal and plans on having a career in law enforcement.
