HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A historic ceremony today honored local Hispanic leaders. This is the first time local Hispanics have been honored at a permanent, open venue.

Our own VP of Community Affairs Cynthia Cisneros was on hand as METRO dedicated the new Northline Transit Center HCC rail station. The station includes portraits on a windscreen that honor people who contributed to the culture of Houston and Texas. This includes the first Hispanic police officer in the City of Houston.

"Well it opened the door for a lot of other young Mexican Americans. Today we have hundreds of them in there. (It) also it broke the color line down there," said Benny Martinez.

This commemoration came about through is partnership between METRO, LULAC and HCC.
