HUMBLE, TX (KTRK) -- Humble ISD students are sleeping outdoors to combat homelessness Saturday.

Humble ISD middle and high school students will spend the night on the field of George Turner Stadium during the hours of 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The annual event is called Cardboard City and their goal is to reframe the conversation about homelessness and to empower students to make a difference.

Cardboard City attendees will spend the night sleeping in their own cardboard shelter on the stadium field.

The more money the students raise, the more cardboard they will receive to construct their shelter.

Throughout the evening the Humble ISD students will have the opportunity to experience what it is like to eat dinner from a soup-style kitchen, hear testimonies from local families who have struggled with homelessness, and participate in games and activities that will help them understand what homelessness looks like in their community.
