Here's a look at some of the free things you can do this holiday season

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The holidays are better with free and low-cost options for entertainment. Here are a few options to celebrate in your area that will not break the bank.

Christmas Trains at Second Woodway Campus

This year, in the Atrium of Second's Woodway Campus, an array of model trains will wind their way through miniature snow-covered villages for the enjoyment of families and friends throughout the Christmas season. Mountains, tunnels and a host of buildings and landscapes complement the setting, adding to this fun family treat. The display opens Saturday, December 3 and will remain open through January 1.

Train Schedule:

Monday - Saturday: 10am - 2pm

Wednesday: 10am - 2pm and 5pm - 7pm

Jones Park in North East Harris County

CRITTER'S CHRISTMAS. Sat., Dec. 17, 10am. Have you thought of decorating a tree outside just for the critters? Learn how to make decorative edible treats for the birds and other wildlife that visit your yard this time of year.

Handel's "Messiah"

The Concert Choir & Orchestra, along with special guest soloists, present Handel's "Messiah" each December. Mark your calendar for our 2016 13th anniversary performances at 8 pm December 15, 16 & 17, 2016. View Photos of Handel's "Messiah" at Christ Presbyterian.

Free general admission tickets will be available at 7pm each evening for that evening's performance. Tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so please arrive early.

Katy Old-Fashioned Christmas Festival

"A Katy Old-Fashioned Christmas Festival" has been POSTPONED until Saturday, December 17. The event will still feature 50,000 lbs of snow, photos with Santa, vendors, No Label Brewery beer garden, food trucks and kid activities on 12/17 from 10am to 5pm. The City of Katy's official Christmas tree lighting ceremony that was scheduled for tomorrow evening has been cancelled, but the Christmas tree and lights of City Hall are now on for your enjoyment!

Live Nativity at Sugarland Methodist

Narrated from the book of Luke and accompanied by songs of the season, Ignite Worship Arts will tell the timeless story of the Nativity with all the familiar characters, including a new-born baby and live animals. After each showing, guests are invited to visit at the manger, pet the animals and go inside for refreshments in the Great Hall.

December 18, on the front lawn of the Education Center (facing Eldridge Road). Admission is free. Shows start at 6:00pm, 6:30pm, 7:00pm and 7:30pm.
