FOMO Factory lets you relive magic of childhood in pop-up coming to Houston Galleria

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- If you live with a constant fear of missing out, also known as FOMO, a two-story, pop-up exhibit now open in Houston wants to help you shake off those worries.

The FOMO Factory launched June 7 at the Houston Galleria for a limited, six-month run, and rather than think about all the things you may have missed leading up to this point in your life, the immersive exhibit is designed to help you reflect on your journey.

And if there's something you want to forget ever happened, the FOMO Factory could also help you have a do-over.

"Our childhood theme is one that's universal: we all had a childhood," said Texas native Rachel Youens in a press release. "Whether yours was great and you want to relive it, or it wasn't so great and you want to reimagine it, we've created that opportunity."

Youens says she was inspired by the time she spent at a summer camp for grown ups, where she learned about the power of play.

And it sounds like play is an understatement when it comes to all the things you can do at FOMO Factory, which boasts 17 "rainbow-colored rooms of fun," including the Birthday Room with a giant cake, and the Playground with a rainbow seesaw.

The Houston installation will also have nine new concepts.

Feel like experimenting? Pop into the Science Lab, where you can sport a lab coat and goggles to conduct experiments.

Are you afraid of the dark? Tap into telling good ghost stories in the Summer Camp Room.

Tired of coloring within the lines? Grab a giant marker and scribble on the walls of the Coloring Book Room. We assume you won't be put in time out for this one.

The FOMO Factory wrapped up a five-month run in Austin last September. Although Youens' creation experiences sold-out crowds, she says don't just go to add something colorful to your Instagram feed.

"These types of exhibits have come to be known as 'Instagram traps' designed specifically for likes," said Youens. "Of course our place is artistic and well lit, but we put the experience first."

"We offer the types of feelings and interactions that can't be captured in a photo. We want you to truly be transported to our world, and not just to create a crafted photo," she continued.

Youens adds the installation plays with all five senses from smells piped into rooms to the sounds of a retro soundtrack and tastes of childhood.
