Calf Scramble shows how tough Texas girls can be

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The calf scramble has been one of the more popular events at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for decades.

Thirty kids chase and try to catch one of 15 calves. After a quick orientation and a bit of star treatment, the fun begins on the NRG Stadium floor.

For one of those participating on Wednesday night, the chase quickly turned into a challenge. As you can see in the video above, participant Alicia Black was stepped on several times by a calf before she finally caught one.

Black and the other kids who caught a calf will get $1,500 to buy a steer or heifer to show at the rodeo next year.

And not to worry. Alicia, who's one tough Texans, was OK!
