Two brothers found shot to death at west Houston apartment complex
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A resident of the Briarwood Village Apartments heard gunshots Tuesday night and called 911. When police arrived, they found two men shot to death.
Resident Ashton Little said, "I heard five gunshots than a sudden pause, then I heard three more."
Now, two brothers are dead, and no one knows why. It happened around 10:15pm Tuesday at the Briarwood Village Apartments, in the 2200 block of Avenida La Quinta Street, in West Houston.
"All we heard was gunshots, someone screaming and that was it," recalled resident Kia Babb. "Then my roommate we want to run the corner and seen two people dead."
Residents at the scene say the victims were brothers, but neither police nor the medical examiner have yet identified the victims. They had been shot multiple times.
When the shooting first happened, one neighbor immediately dialed 911 and another neighbor performed CPR.
"Just trying to help, keep compressions on his wounds... They got to him and he was gone," said Twonda Sutton, the neighbor who called 911. "Scared. Stuff like that you don't see every day, especially not around here."
"Two cars pulled up, they shot them. One dude was dead on arrival, and the other died when EMS got here," recalled neighbor Brittany Joseph, who performed CPR. "A lot of people tried (to help)."
"We were just focused on trying to help him. I was telling him to stay with us and trying to keep him alive. It's all a blur really, " said one good Samaritan who tried to help. She did not want to be identified out of fear that the gunman could come after her.
She called 911 and says she says she desperately did chest compressions as instructed by the dispatcher.
Neither police nor the medical examiner have yet identified the victims. Police have not released a motive for the murders or even a basic description of the suspect or suspects.
According to the Houston Police Department there have been 63 murders so far this year. Last year at this time there were 39. That's a 39 percent increase.
