Shakira postpones Houston concert to rest her vocal cords

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Fans will have to wait just a little bit longer to shake their hips in person with Latin superstar Shakira.

The singer announced Wednesday that the U.S. and European legs of her El Dorado World Tour will be postponed because she needs to rest her vocal cords.

"Though it has been a difficult time for Shakira, she is on her way towards recovering her voice fully," according to a press release. "While disappointed to not be able to perform in January as scheduled, Shakira is happy to be able to get back on the road by summer with her best show yet, and remains incredibly grateful for all the loyalty, patience and support her fans have shown her."

Her January concert at the Toyota Center has been rescheduled for Aug. 22.

Tickets will still be valid, but you can also get a refund if necessary.
