It's the seventh largest school district in Texas and it keeps growing. Katy schools are second in the state in numeric gain in students, growing by about 2600 students a year.

"It's grown a lot," said parent Larry Barber. "It's one of those tough things for people to realize where their kids are going to go next year."

Every day new homes are going up, most of the growth is in the northwest quadrant of the district. Three new campuses will open next school year.

"A lot of families have long standing traditions," Katy ISD spokesperson Maria Corrales DiPetta said at the initial meeting. "They want their kids to go to these particular schools because of the longstanding traditions. We're reaching out to those parents and asking them help us to create new traditions at these school."

In the next ten years, more than 44,000 single family homes, apartment units and town homes are expected to be added. That means allocating the growth within the schools. Tonight district trustees will meet to discuss attendance boundary changes.
