Powerhouse Church holds a specal program that teaches men how to become better people

KATY, TX (KTRK) -- For nearly 20 years, a church in Katy has been trying to change the public's negative perception of men.

Powerhouse Church has a special program called Man Church that teaches men how to become better people. Every Wednesday night the group gathers in hopes of setting good examples for generations of men to follow.

"I need to be an example for my son. It's more than being a good man, but I want my sons to learn how to love their wife unconditionally, to be a servant leader, to serve their wife," said Man Church member Carl Mendez.

The church's pastor says the even those who grow up with a father figure can benefit from attending the services.

"My father taught me like his father taught him and sometimes that's good and sometimes that's not so good. We feel like if we can get the men together and reverse the curse of what's been taught already we can make a difference," said Man Church pastor Robert Burdett.

There are men of all ages who attend the weekly gatherings. Zabian Lawson's father left when he was a newborn. Now, he comes to Man Church for the father figures he never knew.

"There may be things that I may not necessarily be able to relate to, but he has someone that can guide him," said Lawson's mother Leasha Lawson.
