HOUSTON (KTRK) -- After a nearly yearlong renovation, The Heights Theater is almost ready for its first performance on November 23.

The Houston Business Journal reports the renovation is an effort of Edward Cabaniss, a Dallas-based developer, who revamped the entire 11,000-square-foot space.

The theater was built in 1923 and maintains its Art Deco charm despite the upgrades including a new stage, flooring and lighting. The Houston Business Journal notes Spanish tiles and even charred bits of wood from a fire remain, adding character to the venue.

The theater has a special focus on Houston. Pews for the space came from a downtown church, mirrors were made by Heights Glass and local beer will be served at the bar.
