The Woodlands' Blair Mansion set to hit the auction block

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (KTRK) -- Ask residents in the Village of Grogan's Mill, and they'll tell you all about the Blair Mansion, a fixture in The Woodlands.

The 12,000-square-foot home owned by prominent attorney Nelda Luce Blair is set to hit the auction block on April 8. The estate was recently listed for sale for $6.1 million, but will now be sold to the highest bidder who meets or exceeds the auction's reserve bid of $2 million.

The estate has three living levels with five bedrooms, five full and four half bathrooms. Other features include a two-story executive study with wood finishes, an elevator, gourmet kitchen, fitness center and a hidden wine room, but its foyer with dual staircases and a two-story grand salon are probably the two most recognizable features in the home.

Including the guest house and pool cabana, the property has a total of 12,900 square feet of livable space.

The home sits on five acres of perfectly manicured space, making it one of the largest residential acreage properties in town. The estate's oversized pool is the centerpiece to the backyard, but with gently winding walk paths, elegant fountains, wrought-iron gazebos and an elevated trellis, you may not want to go back inside.

The Blairs have elected to sell the home at auction after being frustrated with the traditional sales process. The family has lived in the home for nearly 15 years, and during that time has held countless social and political events there.

"We feel like our mission is accomplished, and we're ready to move on. The house had been for sale for a while," said Blair.

The well-known Blair Mansion in The Woodlands is up for auction.

The concept of a luxury home auction is fairly new to Texas, but helps the seller market to potential buyers around the world, according to Mathias Lenssen of Platinum Luxury Auctions.

"The auction process is unique because we are able to target a wide range of people, bring them through the door and achieve a sale in a short period of a time," Lenssen explained.

"There's quite a few other people who own unique houses that are kind of watching this auction to see how it goes," Blair added.

The property is currently available for previews between noon and 4 p.m. daily until the auction.
