Premium gas costs not worth the benefits, experts say

If you fill your tank with premium gasoline, you're spending a lot of extra money at the pump. But is it worth it?

AAA found that vehicles that recommend but don't require premium fuel might see a moderately better performance with higher-octane gasoline.

The high cost of premium, though, may outweigh the benefit.

The price gap between regular and premium gas has jumped from 10 to 25 percent a gallon in the past few years.
