HUMBLE, TX -- Harris County Precinct 4's Jones Park staff recently worked to re-thatch the park's unique and historic structures in the Akokisa Indian Village. The park's Akokisa Indian Village consists of living-quarter replicas from the early 18th century Akokisa Indians who once lived just across from what is now Jones Park along Spring Creek.

Jones Park staff gathers nearly 4,000 palmetto fronds each year, used because of their large size and manageability, to restore the structures.

Visit the reconditioned Akokisa Indian Village at Jones Park during Pioneer Day on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Witness the past come to life with various 1820s and early 1830s period re-enactments, old-fashioned crafts and demonstrations from settler life.
