Firefighters rescue cats from burning home in Spring
Pet-sized oxygen masks were aboard the truck and used to revive the two surviving cats.

SPRING, Texas (KTRK) -- On Sunday morning, there was a kitchen fire at a house on Roseville Road in Spring. The family in the home was able to escape, carrying their three cats out of the home, but the cats had already inhaled a lot of smoke.

The Spring Fire Department responded and after determining that all of the people inside were safe, their attention turned to the three cats lying outside on the patio.

"Two of them had really labored breathing," said firefighter recruit Nina Torres. It was her first fire.

"The third cat had already expired," Torres said.

Pet-sized oxygen masks aboard the truck were used to revive the two surviving cats.

The family said one of the cats will require veterinary care.

The family and their cats are staying with a relative until the home can be repaired.
