HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Dozens of dogs rescued from Houston and Beaumont after Harvey have arrived at their temporary new home, 1,500 miles away in the DC area.

The "Lab Rescue of the LRCP" group is based in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC, but they help dogs across the country.

This is the non-profit's first transport to rescue Harvey dogs, but they strive to make more.

Some of the labs came from "Houston Pets Alive," but others came from a flooded shelter in Beaumont where about 30 dogs drowned during the storm.

"Houston Pets Alive" wasn't a physical shelter until after they rescued hundreds of dogs during Harvey. They are a branch of "Austin Pets Alive," which contributed to Austin becoming a "no-kill" city. They aim to make Houston a "no-kill" city as well.
