LA GRANGE, Texas -- Austin doctors are working to save the eye of a Fayette County deputy who was critically injured in a shooting while trying to serve an arrest warrant.
Deputy Calvin "CJ" Lehmann was shot during his attempt to arrest an unregistered sex offender Thursday around 6 p.m. at a La Grange discount store.
The suspect cut another deputy with a buck-knife, ran to a motel and started shooting at them.
One of the bullets hit Lehmann in the face. He lost sight in one eye and doctors are trying to save the other.
After a three-hour standoff, the suspect surrendered.
La Grange is about 70 miles southeast of Austin.
