YES Prep teacher accused of having relationship with student
A teacher at a YES Prep school has been fired for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a female student

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A YesPrep teacher was fired Monday, just hours after administrators learned of an allegation that he had an inappropriate relationship with a student.

District officials say the 11th grade teacher from its Southeast campus exchanged over 30 text messages with a female junior student and that the conversations taking place were of subject matter never appropriate between teacher and student.

YesPrep put the teacher initially on leave and notified the Houston Police Department, only terminating him after its own investigation. Officials say they found, "substantial" evidence to validate the allegations.

"We are committed to ensuring that all students are in a safe, secure environment at yes prep southeast and we will act swiftly when this commitment is compromised". Here's the school's principal and a parent who is trying to make sense of it all," said district superintendent Mark DiBella.

Parents at the school say they just learned of the allegations this afternoon. Rita Zermeno, whose child also attends the school, told us "I think it's wrong for any teacher to take advantage of any underage student. We send our kids here to get an education not to be fondled with."

Eyewitness News is not identifying the teacher publicly because at this point he has not been arrested or charged with any crime.

The Houston Police Department is investigating.
