SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- Authorities are hunting for a man they say shot a woman at a Super Target in Spring last night.

The shooting happened around 9pm at the store in the 19500 block of Interstate I-45 at Cypresswood Drive.

Police say a woman was getting into her Ford Taurus when a man walked up while pointing a gun at her. He pulled her out of the vehicle, threw her on the ground and then tried to start her car. The car wouldn't start. Authorities say the man fired at the ground and then over her shoulder. He then ran away.

The gunman then reportedly walked up to a female Target employee who had just gotten off work and was walking to her car. He shot her in the head, took her Kia sedan and drove off. Authorities say the vehicle is a 2014 KIA Optima, Maroon, License plate DPZ-1485.

Authorities say after the woman was shot, she ran to the front of the Target store and a bystander, a specialist in the U.S. Army, saw the man driving toward the woman and intervened, firing at the fleeing vehicle.

The shooting victim was taken to the hospital. Her gunshot wound was minor, and she was treated and released. The first victim was also taken to the hospital. She was treated and released for minor injuries she sustained during the assault.

Precinct 4 deputy constables say there is surveillance video that may help identify the shooter, but the agency is not releasing it to the public.

Authorities describe the shooter as a thin black man. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and was armed with a a black semi-automatic handgun with a silver tip.

The investigation is ongoing and the search continues for the suspect and vehicle. If you have any information, contact police.
