Houston woman suing rodeo for alleged rape from 2012

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 23-year-old woman, who claims she was sexually assaulted after a trail ride, is suing RodeoHouston and a trail ride group.

Brie Ana Williams claims she was brutally attacked in 2012 after she passed out in a truck after an "under-age drinking at a Los Vaqueros sponsored event," according to a press release.

One of the accused rapists is in jail, but the other person continues to participate in the trail ride, Williams claims.

According to the press release, the second accused is the son of the trail boss.

"The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has a duty to protect Brie Ana and every other woman who attends trail ride events", says Attorney Chad Pinkerton. "We will hold them responsible, and we will make sure no other woman ever has to live through the horrible conduct the Los Vaqueros trail ride allowed to happen."

Rodeo officials released a statement about the alleged incident:

"The Los Vaqueros Rio Grande Trail Ride is a separate entity from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with its own rules and regulations. Most trail ride organizations have multiple rides throughout the year, which are run independently from the Show. This event occurred in December 2012, two months prior to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Trail Ride encampment held in Memorial Park, making the event unaffiliated with the Show. Due to pending litigation, the Show is unable to comment further."

It is rare that female sexual assault victims face TV cameras without wanting to protect their identity, but Williams said she wanted to face the media so that rodeo officials could hear and see her discuss the alleged attack.
