Shots fired during Shipley Do-nuts robbery in southeast Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The comforting ritual of a cup of coffee and a donut was shattered Wednesday morning for Ted Campos.

"Somebody came in with a gun, up in the air, and robbed the place," said Campos, whose voice still quivered just minutes after a brazen daylight armed robbery.

Campos and a few other customers were inside the Shipley's Donut on the Gulf Freeway and Hobby Airport when a masked man barged inside. He immediately began firing shots randomly in the store.

"He walked in real calm and shot up the area, and I guess he meant business," recalled Campos. "He jumped over the counter and pointed the gun at everybody that was in there"

Some of the Shipley's employees managed to run out the back door to a nearby furniture store. Furniture store employees called 911. The robber, meanwhile, grabbed what cash he could find and fled.

"He was a in a suit, like a ninja suit, with white mask and gloves," said Patricia Luis, a manager at the Shipley's.

Houston police say the robber drove off in dark grey Infiniti. Campos tried to get a look at the license plate. However the robber fired back.

"As he was leaving, I was in the corner, and I looked up to see what he was driving," said Campos. "And when he saw me looking at him, he shot at me. Yes, he rolled down his window and fired."

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video for a better description of the suspect. They are amazed that no customers nor workers were hurt.
