CLOVIS, NM (KTRK) -- A deputy ended up chasing a naked man on a New Mexico highway who later told police he thought he'd been poisoned.

It all began with a 911 call from other drivers who told dispatchers than a naked man was attempting to flag down cars on the road, KRQE-TV reports. The deputy's body cam then shows him trying to convince a naked Jesus Tarango to get off the highway.

"OK get back over here let's get on the grass," you hear the deputy say.

Seconds later, the man was climbing into the deputy's patrol car.

"Sir! sir! Hey! get out of there," the deputy yells. "He's stolen my unit, he's taken off eastbound on Llano, in my unit, running."

"I need help, this officer didn't want to help me," Tarango is heard saying over the car's radio unit. "I'm poisoned, that's why I got the car."

Tarango drove himself to the hospital where he was quickly tackled by others deputies who were chasing after him. Investigators say Tarango was impaired, but they do not believe he was poisoned.

KRQE-TV reports Tarango now faces a list of charges including resisting an officer, aggravated fleeing, stealing a motor vehicle and concealing identity.
