Volunteers help flood victims
Hundreds of volunteers gathered, food, essential items to hand out to flood victims

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Hundreds of Houstonians spent their Saturday sorting, organizing and packing food and cleaning supplies to donate to the thousands of flood victims.

The group gathered at the Westbury Church of Christ in the Meyerland area before hitting the streets to donate the sacks of essentials. Some like Jan Sansom came all the way from Tomball just to help.

"I can't imagine being on the receiving end of this and thinking this is what I need you're down to that," said Sansom.

More than 500 bags of essentials were assembled in a matter of hours. Also helping those in need is "The Mattress Firm" a local company. The store in Meyerland was giving out mattresses or $700 worth of store credit to anyone who could prove they were victims of the flood.

Applications for mattress help are available online until Monday, August 31, 2015 at www.mattressfirm.com/houstonflood with credit being redeemable until December 31, 2015.
